Sophies Minde Ortopedi invests in future-ready digital solutions through a strategic agreement with Tieto Caretech

Sophies Minde Ortopedi AS (Sophies Minde) is Norway’s largest comprehensive professional environment within orthopedic technology, a full-service provider of orthopedic aids, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Oslo University Hospital HF. Through a new strategic agreement with Tieto Caretech, the company is building a future-oriented clinical IT foundation designed to support workflows, improve the utilization of data, and enable further innovation in patient care.

Sophies Minde serves more than 10,000 patients and users each year and is a leading provider of orthopedic technology in Norway. The company is known for its advanced clinical expertise and an operating model that combines patient care, development of orthopedic aids, and in-house production.

To better meet future needs and ensure continuous quality improvement, Sophies Minde has initiated a modernization of its IT platform. This initiative places particular emphasis on flexibility, high interoperability, and long-term sustainability – for the benefit of patients, professionals, and partners alike.

Tieto Caretech’s Lifecare Open Platform will enable Sophies Minde to manage clinical data and workflows in a more structured and holistic way, while seamlessly integrating with the company’s existing systems for operations, administration, and production management. By consolidating data from multiple sources into one open environment, the platform will support efficient clinical documentation, improved collaboration across functions, and a strong foundation for further digital development.

“For us, orthopedic aids are not just about technology, but about people and the freedom to live life on one’s own terms. Through our collaboration with Tieto Caretech, we are modernizing our IT systems so that healthcare professionals gain better overview, simpler processes, and more time for what truly matters: helping people achieve greater independence and freedom in their everyday life,” says Gunn Berthelsen, CEO of Sophies Minde.

The collaboration is established as a close and strategic partnership, combining Sophies Minde’s clinical and operational expertise with Tieto Caretech’s experience in developing open and scalable healthcare solutions. Together, the parties aim to establish a robust digital foundation that supports both current needs and future opportunities.

For Tieto Caretech, the agreement marks an important milestone. Sophies Minde is the first customer in Norway to adopt the Lifecare Open Platform, and also the first customer within the private healthcare sector. The agreement demonstrates how open, platform-based solutions can support highly specialized and complex healthcare organizations, both in the public and private sector.

“We are very pleased to welcome Sophies Minde as the first Lifecare Open Platform customer in Norway and look forward to the value this collaboration will create. By choosing an open and modular approach, Sophies Minde has made a strategic decision and becomes part of a growing European movement focused on interoperability, flexibility, and long-term value. This gives healthcare providers real freedom to innovate faster, integrate new solutions, and make better use of data - for the benefit of both patients and healthcare professionals,” says Hanne Støre Valeur, Head of Tieto Caretech Norway.

By investing in a modern, open platform and a long-term vendor partnership, Sophies Minde is positioning itself to continue delivering high-quality orthopaedic aids and services. At the same time, it strengthens its ability to manage data, workflows, and further digital development.

About Sophies Minde
Sophies Minde Ortopedi AS is a full-service provider of orthopedic devices and a wholly owned subsidiary of Oslo University Hospital. Since 1927, we have helped people achieve greater freedom. Freedom of movement, and the freedom to have more control over their own lives. For nearly 100 years, we have been a leader in the field of orthopedics, guiding and following its development through many stages. We know that people’s expectations of being able to shape their own lives are not the same as they once were. What “freedom of movement” meant in 1927 is very different today. We expect more. And we are capable of more - both the patients and ourselves. For us, orthopedics is about providing assistive devices that enable people to function at a level they otherwise would not be able to achieve.
