About the client
HaleyTek, initially a joint venture between Volvo Cars and ECARX and currently a subsidary of Volvo, operates at the forefront of software-defined vehicles. The company specializes in building custom Android-based infotainment systems that combine hardware and software to deliver a seamless in-car experience.
Its solutions enhance navigation, enable faster over-the-air updates, and elevate media and voice capabilities. A key focus area is advanced DSP topology, improving road noise cancellation and supporting immersive audio formats such as Dolby Atmos.
Today, HaleyTek provides its technology for a wide range of models across the Volvo, Polestar, and Geely ecosystems.
The opportunity
HaleyTek was developing a shared Android-based infotainment platform for multiple OEMs within the Geely group. A critical part of this effort was building the right capabilities to meet the high standards expected from automotive-grade products.
To support this, HaleyTek sought a reliable partner with hands-on expertise in Android development to provide support with audio architecture development, third-party integrations, and quality assurance. The goal was to assemble a self-organized, cross-functional team, including a Scrum Master, that could integrate seamlessly with internal teams and deliver features within a tight SOP timeline.
Solution
The collaboration between HaleyTek and Tieto Tech Consulting centered on building a platform for enabling seamless in-car audio. “We have been working with Android for mobile devices since 2011. When we started to look at the automotive version in 2017, we quickly saw the potential it had,” shared Piotr Romanowski, Lead Business Developer at Tieto Tech Consulting. Android Automotive is a full-stack open-source OS with strong possibilities for customization and scalability within in-vehicle entertainment systems and head units. Therefore, it was a strong choice for the project.
