About the client
WEIG Group, a family-owned company headquartered in Mayen, Germany, specializes in sustainable packaging solutions. With expertise spanning recycling, cartonboard, and packaging for both food and non-food sectors, the company serves as a trusted partner to brand manufacturers and private label producers.
At the core of WEIG Group’s operations is a highly integrated value chain that covers around 90% of board supply, ensuring consistent quality while maximizing resource efficiency. Its fiber-based recycled board products reflect a strong commitment to sustainability, supported by ongoing innovation in the use of recovered materials.
The opportunity
WEIG Group set out to replace its legacy TIPS Sales system to streamline the entire quote-to-bill process. The chosen path was a migration to SAP S/4HANA — a modern, in-memory ERP platform designed for greater speed and scalability.
However, the new solution had to fit into a complex IT landscape. Alongside legacy TIPS modules, the environment included Seeburger middleware, the Transporeon freight platform, the PAARI plant logistics system, and a customer portal built on SAP Fiori. In addition, production processes around the KM6 board machine needed to be harmonized and fully integrated into the new SAP environment.
The core challenge was to embed SAP SD and SAP TM into this ecosystem, while ensuring uninterrupted business operations throughout the transition.
Solution
Following a successful proof of concept, Tieto Tech Consulting was selected to lead WEIG Group’s SAP S/4HANA implementation. The project kicked off in June 2024 with a team of 25 experts, combining deep SAP expertise with strong knowledge of paper industry processes. Just eight months later, the solution went live.
The transition to SAP S/4HANA enabled real-time data exchange and faster, more informed decision-making. By seamlessly integrating production planning, inventory management, and logistics, the new setup improved efficiency across the supply chain. Beyond immediate gains, the platform also provides a scalable foundation for future growth, supporting further digital innovation and expansion across WEIG Group’s operations.
