GenAI data analytics bot enables real-time pharma intelligence at Darnytsia

The company produces over 180 medicines, with a strong focus on cardiology, neurology, and pain management — areas that directly impact patients’ quality of life.

As one of Ukraine’s leading pharmaceutical companies, Darnytsia manages vast volumes of data across operations, supply and demand planning, sales analytics, and commercial intelligence. Demand for BI insights was growing rapidly across the organization, putting more pressure on the central data analytics team.

With limited time and resources, the team struggled to keep up with a rising number of requests, creating delays in delivering timely, actionable insights to the business units. To address this, Darnytsia set out to find an intelligent solution that could democratize access to analytics, effectively handle ad hoc requests, and reduce the time and cost of report creation.

While Microsoft Power BI Copilot was initially considered, a company-wide rollout proved less cost-effective given the diversity and complexity of reporting needs. The priority became clear: find a more flexible, cost-efficient alternative to gain on-demand BI insights. 

The project began with a detailed assessment of Darnytsia IT landscape and data architecture. Based on its results, our team has suggested using the Azure OpenAI service with a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) framework to create a proprietary data analytics assistant, Data Analytics Bot. 

Designed as a corporate chatbot available in Microsoft Teams (desktop and mobile), the GenAI assistant enables data querying and analysis using simple, natural language prompts. 

Users can ask it to model data about the latest sales trends or run more complex competitive analysis. For example, “trends of paracetamol sales in 2023” or “compare the sales rates of Darnytsia key products against five major competitors”.  

The Bot transforms natural language into an SQL query, retrieves relevant data, and delivers results in seconds, combining an Excel report with a concise, text-based summary. If needed, users can instantly request visualizations, such as charts or graphs, directly within the conversation.

Behind the scenes, the GenAI assistant for data analytics operates as a set of specialized AI components, each responsible for a stage of the analytics workflow — from language detection to data visualization. The Bot is securely hosted within the client’s Microsoft Azure environment and is designed to operate strictly within the context of internal data, ensuring both relevance and data privacy.

To maintain accuracy and reliability, all interactions are monitored, allowing teams to audit queries, identify inconsistencies, and continuously improve performance. The solution can also be rapidly deployed and scaled across businesses of any size – the implementation time for small-scale databases requires just 2 days, and up to 2 weeks for more complex data warehouse (DWH) environments. 

Beyond Microsoft Teams, the Bot can be integrated with other platforms such as Slack, Google Chat, Viber, or Telegram. Its modular design supports further customization, including new data sources, expanded analytics capabilities, and tailored visual outputs.

With a new assistant, time-to-insight dropped from weeks to seconds, enabling faster, more informed decision-making across the organization. At the same time, the analytics team was freed from routine ad hoc requests, allowing them to focus on higher-value, strategic work.

The solution also reduced the cost of creating and maintaining BI reports through a flexible, pay-as-you-go model. By removing the need for advanced Power BI or SQL skills, it democratized access to analytics across the company. With near real-time insights, language-agnostic interaction, and enterprise-grade security, the Bot delivers both speed and trust at scale.

Delivered in just two weeks, the GenAI assistant for data analytics continues to evolve through ongoing support from our team to improve its accuracy, minimize errors, and expand 
its capabilities.

Building on this success, Darnytsia is now extending the solution with a mobile version featuring speech recognition. The next phase introduces voice-based commands and responses, enabling convenient, on-the-go access to business intelligence across the organization.
