Challenge
Russian disinformation has rapidly grown more sophisticated than ever before.
Russian state-aligned disinformation is distributed across open-source media in audio, video and text formats. For researchers and legal teams, manually identifying consistent narratives and comparing content is time-consuming and challenging.
Ukrainian NGO Change Together needed a system that could collect, structure and analyze this wide-ranging material at scale, so it could be converted into evidence for legal analysis and potential war-crimes proceedings.
Solution
The War of Words platform uses AI to collect and process disinformation from Russian media.
Tieto Tech Consulting designed and deployed the AI-assisted War of Words media analytics platform, which automatically processes open-source Russian audio, video and text. The system applies AI-driven transcription, translation and indexing to structure more than 15 million files spanning across 14 years. This enables investigators to trace recurring narratives across sources and timeframes.
The platform is engineered for scalability and performance, maintaining responsive search and analysis even as data volumes grow.
Impact
Scalable AI for high-volume analysis
Built to process millions of files and simultaneous data streams, War of Words demonstrates how AI-driven analytics can structure fragmented audio, video and text into searchable datasets. The platform uses cross-source comparison and pattern detection to support faster and more reliable analysis in a complex information environment.
