Diameter signaling controller

With the introduction of 4G/LTE the signaling network traffic is expected to explode by a factor of 40 times from now to 2020. This will undoubtedly put extreme pressure on the existing core network infrastructure. Diameter Signaling Controllers with flexible routing capabilities will significantly reduce the network configuration complexity, cut integration cost, increase scalability and provide topology hiding of operator networks.

fSignaling banner - Diameter Signaling ControllerThe habit we all have in using applications in smartphones and pads will grow up to 10 times from now till 2020. In the same time the number of mobile broadband users is expected to increase up to 4 times. To sum it up, with the introduction of 4G/LTE the signaling network traffic is expected to grow up to 4000 %.

The question is how operators will meet the challenge of handling this increase in signaling traffic load since the current IP-based infrastructure is not built to handle this in a scalable and secure manner.

This puts very high demands on the core network infrastructure – Telecom operators will have to handle a huge signaling traffic load expansion and they will see a rapid increase in the amount of network elements to manage.

Today´s IP-based infrastructure has not been built to handle such a signaling traffic load in a scalable and secure manner, thereby the ongoing introduction of 4G/LTE mobile networks increases the need for Diameter - a key protocol in the interworking for a number of networking scenarios.

Due to this, there is a need for an efficient and flexible Diameter routing solution to address a number of network design issues such as:

  • reduced overall signaling load
  • simplified network configuration scenarios at roll-out and upgrade
  • secure and efficient intra network connectivity

Tieto’s Solution

Tieto Diameter Signaling Controller provides a flexible, robust and secure solution for reduced overall signaling load, simplified network configuration scenarios at roll-out and upgrade as well as secure and efficient intra network connectivity.

Through its flexible routing capabilities - i.e. acting as Diameter Proxy and/or Relay Agents between LTE/IMS network elements – Tieto Diameter Signaling Controller will significantly reduce the network configuration complexity, cut integration cost, increase scalability and provide topology hiding of operator networks.

With Tieto Diameter Signaling Controller, 3GPP defined Agents such as Diameter Router Agent (DRA), Diameter Edge Agent (DEA) and Diameter Agent (DA) will also be addressed.

Tieto Diameter Signaling Controller can act as a Diameter Routing Agent, a Diameter Edge Agent or a Diameter Agent. Some characteristics:

  • Build on proven industry standard Linux servers
  • High Availability ”five-nines”
  • Very high capacity
  • Good scalability
  • A true ”carrier-grade” solution

The Diameter Base Protocol, as specified by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), provides a framework for Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) for a wide range of applications. It is intended to be used with application specific extensions, for example as defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for AAA applications in the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

Benefits

Tieto Diameter Signaling Controller will significantly reduced network configuration complexity, lower integration cost, increase scalability and provide topology hiding of operator networks. And the best part is that it is available today!

Tieto Diameter Signaling Controller is based on Tieto’s world class signaling products and stacks for 2G, 3G and 4G networks – including the Tieto Diameter Protocol product which is built on the same robust and carrier grade architecture as the other Tieto Signaling solutions for e.g. traditional SS7 and SIP. Customers already using Tieto’s signaling products will recognize the same type of API’s, management functions etc. also in the Diameter protocol based products.

Benefits in brief:

  • Reduce the network configuration complexity
  • Cut integration cost
  • Increase scalability
  • Provide topology hiding of operator networks
