Test as a Service – an innovative concept

The solution Test as a Service was nominated by IBM for the Software Innovation Award 2009 and Tieto for IBM’s Software Business Partner of the Year.

Tieto Test as a Service (TaaS) is a concept that was launched in Denmark in the first half of 2009. Already, it has received wide attention, due to the innovative and flexible nature of the solution.

Tieto is one of the few Danish suppliers offering to take over a company’s entire test process or parts of it, leaving the company to focus on its core competences. Test as a Service, which is offered by Tieto in collaboration with IBM, is based on the idea that customers can avoid the hassle and large costs related to establishing an in-house testing facility. Instead, the customer can lease a variety of testing software as a hosted solution for a limited period of time. And it is in the licenses that there is an opportunity to save on costs.

The Country Manager for Denmark, Erik Hechmann, says “As a customer, you might not need a permanent, large test setup with matching software licenses. We can provide the customers with the testing licenses and consultancy so they can perform professional tests for a timeframe of their choice”.

It is estimated that there is a large market for this solution in Denmark, as Test as a Service reduces the time-to-market and increases the quality of testing at a lower price.

An award-winning concept

The solution Test as a Service was nominated by IBM for the Software Innovation Award 2009 and Tieto for IBM’s Software Business Partner of the Year. Tieto won the latter and the jury said:
“It is the innovative nature of Test as a Service that makes Tieto the IBM Software Business Partner of the Year. Tieto has made testing tools available for the masses and not merely the privileged few. With TaaS, the customers save time and money as they are provided with a solution to a business challenge that is not part of their core business.”

Tieto is one of the first partners to be nominated in two categories and the Danish team is beyond pleased. 
The Danish Alliance Manager, Annette Ibsen says: “The attention Test as a Service has received has been overwhelming. Within the first three weeks of its launch, we submitted six tenders offering the solution and booked 30 meetings with interested potential customers. I believe it is a testimony of the market’s need for an innovative and flexible solution as Test as a Service is”.  Annette Ibsen is not hesitant when asked how TaaS has become such an early success: “The alliance with IBM and the warm reception of TaaS was only made possible because of Principal Peer Eland and his TaaS team. It is their passion for their work that has made this a success”.
