EC Personnel Tracking Solutions in the global lead
Energy Components has been providing personnel logistics solutions to the oil and gas industry for more than ten years, and is now the leading global solution provider within its domain.
EC News spoke to Atle Hauge, Director of EC GS Operations Support, who gave his view on the increasing demand for EC’s PTS solutions: "Our solutions reflect the global best practices for personnel logistics, they are ‘commercial off the shelf products’ and have proven to be rapidly implemented, easily operated, and hence requiring little support. In addition to the documented response time performance, these are all critical factors for the success."
DaWinci 10 years as North Sea POB solution
DaWinci is a vital tool for ensuring that all HSE requirements with respect to certificates and work time regulations are complied with. October 2010 marked the 10 year anniversary for the North Sea industry POB solution. The solution was the world’s first ever collaboration solution for handling personnel logistics, and has evolved to become the de facto industry solution in the Norwegian North Sea.
On the Norwegian Continental Shelf all oil and gas personnel transportation and POB management is handled by DaWinci. With a 100 percent market share and close to 5,000 active users on a daily basis, the database holds the records of more than 130,000 offshore employees.

Heliport.no
Heliport.no is the portal for North Sea helicopter flight information and publishes departure and arrival information for the helicopter flights to and from the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Initially intended for those who were waiting for offshore personnel going back home, the site has proven to accommodate a need for information from a much broader audience.
“The number of page loads illustrates the increasing relevance of heliport.no. To date, close to 63 million page loads have been registered, which implies an annual average of more than 18 million. The number of page loads clearly reflects the operational situation such as fog, strong winds, etc. Heliport’s most busy day was on 18 April 2010 with 372,368 page loads registered,” said Atle Hauge.
All information published on heliport.no is being derived directly and in real time from the DaWinci solution.
EC’s PTS in 20 countries
Legislation for the Norwegian continental shelf requires that the operator keeps a complete overview, available at all times, of all personnel located onboard or enroute to/from any installation or vessel.
Not all countries have similar legislation, yet there are several EC customers that have invested in this component in the EC suite of solutions. EC PTS for onshore and offshore operations.
The Personnel Transportation & Tracking Solution (PTS) is today operated in more than 20 countries globally; onshore as well as offshore. Atle Hauge is proud of the growing global footprint: “Our solution is being operated in countries from Alaska to Australia. Indonesia is the largest single country operation, where a total of seven oil companies are using the PTS for handling their personnel logistics.”
He also added that by constantly including new functionalities and features to the PTS solution, such as a number of integrated modules for electronic lifeboat mustering, zone tracking and
self service check-in, the EC solution adds value to operators across the world.
