With more than a million objects in constantly expanding video and audio archives, the broadcaster company commissioned a unified asset management and workflow system. The result is improved programme quality, substantial cost savings and efficiency gains through better workflows.

Media companies must make best use of their continuously growing archives, moving away from tapes to digital assets and improving their business processes. The management of these assets becomes critical for managing business and developing it into new areas.

To make best use of its archives, and to improve its business processes in the future, the broadcaster company commissioned a unified asset management and workflow system, developed in association with Blue Order and Tieto Broadcasting.

In 2004, the broadcaster company started a large-scale programme to optimize all essential television production processes. From a technical point of view, the goal of the project is to integrate all existing and new digital production systems, as well as systems for the television archives, into a common networked production platform.

The main function of the unified asset management and workflow system is to support and enhance the radio and television production and broadcasting processes:

  • to provide a unified and uniform platform for all media production and archiving at YLE;
  • to enable and promote the cross-utilization of media in different organizational units;
  • to provide easy access to the company’s media assets;
  • to speed up the programme-making process;
  • to increase the productivity and quality of journalistic work.

”Together with Tieto and partners we made and implemented a roadmap for our media asset management, moving away from video tape and acquisitions, as the on-air producing of TV programs has shifted onto the unified asset management and workflow system."
