Tieto delivers a ticket and information system for Helsinki Region Transport
Tieto Corporation PRESS RELEASE 25 January 2012 at 1.15 pm EET
Helsinki Region Transport (HSL/HRT) has selected Tieto as the supplier of its new ticket and information system. The contract covers the delivery of the ticket and information system as well as the support and maintenance service for a period of five years. The total contract value including the delivery and five years of support and maintenance is approximately EUR 90 million, of which approximately EUR 60 million are investment costs for the system and approximately EUR 30 million are maintenance costs.
The modernization of the system is visible to HSL/HRT customers in terms of better service and information. Passengers can monitor the path of a vehicle in real time on a bus stop display, a computer or a mobile phone. Besides passenger communications, the system improves traffic control, public transport planning, financial planning and quality control. It also improves the efficiency of bus traffic, as bus priority can be implemented in traffic lights more extensively.
"We will get an advanced new generation system that helps us serve our customers better. We selected Tieto because their tender was the most competitive in terms of quality and price. We have a long history of co-operation with Tieto and we know the company as a reliable partner that can implement the new generation system innovatively and reliably," says Suvi Rihtniemi, Executive Director, HSL/HRT.
"We have invested in public transport and intelligent traffic solutions for a long time. This is the most versatile and intelligent ticket and information system implemented anywhere. We are pioneers with HSL/HRT in this field," says Ari Järvelä, Executive Vice President, Finland and the Baltic countries, Tieto.
Tieto's solution is based on open service architecture, which enables development of the ticket and information system providing new functionalities and services. The system is built on utilizing the location data of the vehicles. Satellite navigation is used to provide more information for example in exceptional situations.
