Tieto Norway with Green IT acknowledgement at Rosing 2010

Tieto has been honored with a diploma as top three amongst 16 nominees in the Norwegian Computer Society's event Rosing 2010. The jury stated that Tieto has a "SmartGrid approach that will form the foundation of many new environmentally friendly business models in the future". The acknowledgement is a result of Tieto's "Manage Smart in Smart Grid" project together with the Norwegian Centre of Expertise (NCE) Halden, that got to the final in the Rosing Green IT award this year.
The Norwegian Computer Society, NCS is the largest special interest community for information technology (IT) in Norway. The society encompasses the IT industry, corporations in general and research and development institutions. Rosing 2010 is an initiative to honor the best Norwegian IT companies and a lot of high profile companies are supporting this event.
"Manage Smart in Smart Grid" is a project sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council and explores the potential of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Smart Grids for improving energy management, both in private homes and larger buildings.
"The research will provide a detailed understanding of how new technology, new business models and an in depth understanding of user needs can benefit consumers, suppliers, the environment and society in general. The aim is to develop new models of energy efficiency, new services and prototype products" says head of Utility Norway, Kaare Lunde.
Tieto is project owner and participants include NCE Energy and Emissions Trading Halden, Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), Østfold Research, moreCom and industrial partners from the Østfold area.
"Smart Grids is recognized as an important prerequisite for reaching the ambitious EU 20/20/20 goals of 20 % reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases, 20 % increased energy efficiency and 20 % of the energy usage from renewable energy sources by 2020" says head of energy sales in Norway, Knut Eirik Gustavsen.
