Already one of the largest banks in the Nordic countries, Handelsbanken is now setting up operations in Estonia. Using TietoEnator's BankSyst solution, Handelsbanken will be offering universal banking services to retail customers in the country, while meeting all enterprise needs.

Harri Tuohimaa, head of Handelsbanken Estonia says that Handelsbanken wanted a modern technology that was easy to use. “BankSyst fitted perfectly. It has good user interfaces, is easy for our staff to use and allows us to add on features in the future. It saves us time, effort and money and we’re pleased we’re using what is a compact solution,” he says. Jaan Jakobson, marketing and sales manager at TietoEnator in Estonia, says BankSyst has been especially developed for banks such as Handelsbanken Estonia. “The solution is aimed at banks just starting up or those that have less than 500,000 customers. It can also be used for the branch office needs of bigger banks.” "BankSyst also enables internet banking, local clearing and the delivering of reports and updates from the Bank of Estonia. The whole system is based on a web-oriented Oracle database,” Jakobson says. Handelsbanken Estonia will open its first branch during the second quarter of 2006, bringing the total time spent on installation and customer-need adjustment to six months – an impressive time-to-market period for a bank wanting to establish itself on a new market.
